Austin Blum

Austin came to Pre from Medtronic, where he spent two and a half years as a hardware test engineer building and running the kind of complex, tightly documented test programs that medical devices demand — a discipline that transfers directly to seismic qualification, where the test plan has to answer every question a reviewer will ask. Before that he was a mechanical design engineer at Karakoram, designing splitboard hardware to hold up under the loads, cold and abuse of the backcountry, which left him with a good instinct for how a product actually behaves at its limits. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington. Austin lives in Bend, and spends his own time on rock and snow — climbing through the summer and splitboarding in the backcountry once the season turns.
